Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant awards ceremony nears, there’s always an outcry for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles in the world and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
